2.6 Using the Productivity and Sample Applications Repository

Upload and manage custom applications uploaded to the Productivity and Sample Applications repository and monitor productivity and sample installations.

2.6.1 Accessing the Productivity and Sample Applications Repository

The Productivity and Sample Applications repository displays currently installed custom, productivity, and sample applications.

Although the Productivity and Sample Applications repository displays all custom, productivity, and sample applications installed in the current workspace, instance administrators can only edit custom applications.

To view the Productivity and Sample Applications repository:

  1. Sign in to Oracle Application Express Administration Services.
  2. Click Manage Instance.
  3. Under Manage Shared Components, click Productivity and Sample Applications.

    The Productivity and Sample Applications page displays as an interactive report. You can customize the appearance of the page using the Search bar at the top of the page.

2.6.2 Managing Custom Applications

Instance administrators manage custom applications by uploading them to the Productivity and Sample Applications repository.

2.6.2.1 About Making Custom Apps Available to Users

Once a custom application has been added to the Productivity and Sample Applications repository, developers can view, install, run, upgrade and deinstall it in the App Gallery.

Developers can develop their own custom applications. Like Oracle-supplied productivity and sample applications, custom applications typically include both application pages and the supporting database objects. To create a custom applications, you first export it. Then, an instance administrator adds the application export to Productivity and Sample Applications repository.

Tip:

Although the Productivity and Sample Applications repository displays all applications installed in the current workspace, instance administrators can only edit custom applications.

2.6.2.2 Uploading a Custom App to the Repository

Upload custom applications to the Productivity and Sample Applications repository.

To upload a custom application to the repository:

  1. Sign in to Oracle Application Express Administration Services.

  2. Click Manage Instance.

  3. Under Manage Shared Components, click Productivity and Sample Applications.

  4. Click Create.

  5. For Specify File:

    1. Import file - Navigate to the file.

    2. File Type - Select the type of export file to be imported.

    3. File Character Set - Verify that File Character Set is correct.

    4. Click Next.

  6. For Application Details:

    1. Application ID - Specify a unique integer value that identifies the application. The default is the value of Export File Application. Application IDs in the range of 3000 to 9000 are reserved for internal use by Oracle Application Express.

    2. Category - Select the primary category to associate with the application.

    3. Description - Enter a brief description of the application.

    4. Click Next.

  7. Click Create.

2.6.2.3 Editing Custom Application Details

Track variety of information about a custom application and configure App Gallery behavior by editing the application details.

Tip:

Although the Productivity and Sample Applications repository displays all applications installed in the current workspace, instance administrators can only upload, edit, and delete custom applications.

Administrators track a variety information about an uploaded custom application including the application name, descriptions, group, status, associated categories, tags, language, and version. Use Status to control if an application displays in the App Gallery.

To edit application details:

  1. Sign in to Oracle Application Express Administration Services.
  2. Click Manage Instance.
  3. Under Manage Shared Components, click Productivity and Sample Applications.
  4. Locate the application and click the Edit icon adjacent to the application name.

    The Application Detail page appears.

  5. Under Application Detail:
    1. Edit the appropriate attributes, including the name, description, group, status, associated categories, tags, and language.
    2. Configure Status to control if an application displays in the App Gallery. Options include Available, Coming Soon, or Hidden.
  6. Under Statistics:
    1. Unlock Allowed - Indicate whether the application should support the option to be unlocked and editable once installed in a workspace. If an application should always remain locked, select No.
    2. Page Count - Enter the number of pages in the application.
    3. Object Count - Enter the number of database objects associated with the application.
    4. Required Free Space in KB - Identifies the amount of free space required to install the supporting objects associated with the application. The free space will not be checked for a value of zero.
  7. Under Version:
    1. Release Date - Select a date from the calendar.
    2. Display Version - Specify the application version number, based on the value in the Version defined in Edit Application Properties.
    3. Build Version - Specify the build version number as an integer.
    4. Minimum APEX Version - Specify the minimum version of Oracle Application Express required to install the application.
    5. Minimum DB Version - Specify the minimum version of Oracle Database required to install the application.
    6. Change Log - Specify, in bullet points using HTML markup, the primary changes that have been made to the application since the previous version. This information displays on Application Detail page, where a newer version of the application is available for installation.
  8. Under Version:
    1. Company - Indicates the provider of the application.
    2. Email - Indicates the support email address for the provider of the application. For all internally produced applications, the field should be left blank.
    3. Website - Indicates the website for the provider of the application.
  9. Edit the other remaining attributes.
  10. Click Apply Changes.

2.6.2.4 Deleting a Custom Application

Delete custom applications from the Productivity and Sample Applications repository.

To delete a custom application:

  1. Sign in to Oracle Application Express Administration Services.
  2. Click Manage Instance.
  3. Under Manage Shared Components, click Productivity and Sample Applications.
  4. Locate the application and click the Edit icon adjacent to the application name.

    The Application Detail page appears.

  5. Click Delete and follow the on-screen instructions.
